Okay, here it is... the annual completely sleep deprived blog. Racing Thoughts Part III right? Okay, so this year it's Sleepless in Baltimore which incidentally, could have been the original film. Meg was in Baltimore -- there's scenes at Peabody and Mount Vernon actually.
Hmmmm... Okay, so this is how this one's going to breakdown. 10 racing thoughts, We'll see if there'll be any connection. Actually the intro, definitely should have counted as a racing thought...
1. So what do you do if you don't sleep at nights. Typically, that means, I end up having another day. A day when everyone else is... well, sometimes, it feels like there'll all plugged into a matrix or something. I can't really reach them. I'm always wishing I could. I love having friends overseas or on different coasts to talk to when I can't sleep...
2. But to be honest, I've learned that the times when I can't sleep are the worst times to talk. Besides extreme irritability, I'm pretty vulnerable. I always share things I would never share if I were more awake. Granted, I've been told that I'm pretty walled up and vague on normal occasions, so maybe when I get tired and open up a bit more, that's just normal disclosure. Anyways, even if I don't like to talk, I can't help writing when I'm not sleeping. People get emails and know that I'm not sleeping without my saying anything. It's kind of annoying. So now I try not to send emails when I'm not sleeping, but then I have put stuff here. I wonder if I'll end up deleting this blog. Parts I and II are still here, but I've thought about deleting them before.
3. K so my dad told me to focus on Philipians and Titus for the next few days -- because they were easy books. (?) I don't know if I understand the connection between Phil. and Titus. Can't imagine why he picked those. I guess maybe they are "easy." They take less then ten min. to read each- that's easy. Maybe though he was talking about the doctrine being "easy." Don't know but now he's in NY for Max's christening. I'd thought I'd go up to Manhatten too on Sat. But I guess I better just chill this weekend. But ya, so I read Titus before I fell asleep around 10:30pm last night.
Goldie, I'm going to copy your blog's idea on book excerpts; I don't have a comment though. The passage pretty much speaks for itself:
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
~excerpted from Titus
4. So isn't it great I fell asleep before 11. Well, I woke up at midnight. I think a cd was playing. I have a pretty good set of sleep cds: winter solistice instrumentals, lifestreams yoga/massage music, a mix my dad did with MWS instrumentals, psalms, and actually a solo I did (Our Father.) I hate hearing it I always fastforward it when it comes on. Oh, also one of my favorite cds, a soprano named "summer."
Well, finally the cd stopped playing and I knew I wasn't going to fall asleep so, I got up and started playing Chopin. Well, first I played Morning by Morning/ Great is thy Faithfulness then I played Chopin. I had an interview once, and someone asked me to name something I loved, I said Fredrich Chopin. He was like umm, okay, great. But hey, if I had said Michael Jackson, he probably wouldn't have batted an eye. Hmmm, this thought actually could go down a few more rabbit trails, but nah... No one cares about Chopin and George Sand and monestaries and turning around and seeing people standing behind you, you know shouldn't be there. (like I said way too long of a story and it's mostly Chopin's story, not mine)
5. At some point I read Philipians, here's another excerpt...
And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.
6. So went back to bed for a bit, then woke up around 3:30. Decided to do some yoga. So I turned on the yoga cd and started lighting candles. But I lit one that was an oil not wax candle. The smoke alarm went off...
7. As I stood under the alarm waving a pillow, a thought occurred to me, could I get the smoke out the air under the alarm, but still be in danger of fire? Maybe that's just plain dumb, but isn't that basically, what happens when you disconnect (or take the battery) out of your smoke alarm, because you get annoyed with it constantly going off because cheese from your lasagna spilled in the oven...
8. When you don't sleep, your muscles -- well, my muscles, get incredibly tense and painful. So the yoga helped a lot. I think I might have catnapped for a little while longer afterwards. Not much, because eventually, I decided to go to my gym and sit in the sauna. The gym opens at 5:30am and that's about when I got there. I ate an asian pear and drank a qt of water before I went in. I felt a lot more loosened up after that. So I went an ran a bit. Then, ran home, took a shower and went to work.
9. Okay, so sleepless in seattle, I first watched that my first time at Stanford. I couldn't sleep. I was staying in this girl's living room and I found that and watched it. That trip (and subsequent CA stories) was one of the most surprising trips I've ever taken. I couldn't have foreseen what would happen afterwards. But I've written a lot about my trips out West. So I'll leave off here.
10. Time to try and shut off the brain.
BTW: I'm going to do something very random and post this as June 1, 2005. This was actually written, June 1, 2006.
